Today, I begin to express our journey through the written word. I have tried to start this blog several times and failed. I have decided to step up and make it happen! I will give you some history first. I am married to an amazing man who has given me the gift of two amazing sons, E and C. I have titled my blog Mahoney Adventures. We began a new adventure October 2009. Due to the declining ecomomy, being self-employed was not working out for our family. My husband, Dave, had his own business, he installed tile and hard wood flooring. After a lot of research, discussions, prayer, and more prayer we came to the decision for Dave to join the Army. We have had many adventures prior to joining the Army, many that are miraculous and amazing. They all lead to this big decision, joining the Army! I will share stories of them as we go, this past August we celebrated our 10 year anniversay, so to say the least to begin 10 years ago would be over-whelming for all of us.
So off to Basic Training Dave went, leaving myself and our 7 year old and 5 year old sons to prepare for our adventures to begin in May. For all of us this was a big transition. Dave is an amazing father, so for our boys we had to trust God with having him gone for so many months. Looking ahead to the future and possible deployements and more time with him away from us, we had to grasp the reality of our decisions. This is where faith and hope must conquer the fear of the unknown. As we walked through our first two months apart it became apparent this was a Divine journey. God's supernatural peace was present for all of us. We were faced with challenges, but through prayer and support felt comforted and loved. No words can express our gratefulness to all who walked close by our side and encouraged us.
Dave graduated from Basic Training in January 2010. I was able to go and see his graduation because a dear friend gave me airmiles and money for the car rental. So here is some history on us, due to lack of work for almost an entire year before Dave joined the Army we faced many finacial challenges. Quite honestly it was a miracle we still had a home and food. Every month God provided miraculously for us. He was patient with us in the big transition of letting go and trusting Him with it all. Immediately after Dave's graduation from Basic he was sent to Texas for his advanced training. Our goal with joining the Army was to get Dave back through school. He felt led to go into the medical field. We literally got one of the last openings for him to be a medic for that time frame. So Dave went from Fort Sill, OK to Fort Sam Houston, TX. The boys and I continued to stay in Oregon. Dave studied hard and graduated from AIT, May 14 2010. That same day he was home with us, FINALLY!
Here is where the MAHONEY ADVENTURES really begin......two weeks later our family moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky. Yes, I said Kentucky. I do admit I wasn't quite sure where Kentucky was. After 10 plus years of living in Oregon, Dave and I dismantled our comfortable lives and leaped! We have been here since June. Upon our arrival we found out Dave would deploy by the first of the year. So after getting him back we now had to prepare to say goodbye again. Peace, supernatural, unexplainable peace came over us. We knew when we began this journey God would carry us through all the challenges we faced. So I chose to embrace this journey, as I did He embraced our family.
